Spy Coast Farm is a private facility that specializes in the breeding and development of top-quality performance horses on 800 acres in Lexington, KY adjacent to the Kentucky Horse Park. We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic equine veterinarian to join our team. The associate veterinarian will have the opportunity to work in multiple divisions of the farm including Reproduction, Young Horse Development Center, Stallion and CEM Quarantine, and the Rehabilitation and Fitness Center.
The Associate Veterinarian will assist with preventative herd health and routine care on approximately 300 resident horses boarded at Spy Coast Farm. This will include neonatal examinations and care, lameness evaluations, diagnostic imaging including radiographs and ultrasound, routine dental examinations, castrations, and on call emergency services.
The Spy Coast Farm Reproduction Center includes mares, weanlings, yearlings, up through two-year olds, the Stallion Station, and the CEM Quarantine Facility. The farm breeds approximately 50-80 mares/year via artificial insemination with both fresh cooled and frozen semen and foals 40-50 foals/year. There is a laboratory on site to perform advanced reproductive techniques including embryo transfer and follicle aspirations for ICSI. The Stallion Station stands 10-12 warmblood stallions to collect commercially for fresh cooled semen shipments throughout the USA and Canada. The farm offers commercial import quarantine services for mares and stallions for Contagious Equine Metritis and USDA export quarantine services.
The Rehabilitation and Fitness Center is a state-of-the-art referral center, where specialized staff work with each horse’s primary veterinarian to customize an appropriate rehabilitation program. Rehabilitation cases range from soft tissue injuries to post-surgical layups, fractures, and neurologic cases. Additionally, ship-in services are frequented by yearling sales prep and fitness for competing horses. The associate veterinarian will have access to varying regenerative therapies including stem cells, PRP, Prostride, A2M, and IRAP; as well as the opportunity to use therapeutic and treatment modalities including Cold Water Spa, Aqua-Treadmill, dry treadmill, Regenerative Laser Therapy, PEMF, Cold Laser, Equinosis Lameness Locator, and Shockwave therapy.
The Equine Education Center is a world class teaching facility built specifically for the equine industry. Our associate will have the opportunity to participate and attend numerous continuing education lectures including AAEP 360 seminars, International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology (ISELP) Modules, University of Kentucky Gluck Equine Research programming, and many other equine education programs. There are also opportunities to participate in research projects in various departments of the farm.
Requirements
- Must have valid veterinary license to practice in the USA and the state of Kentucky.
- Must have USDA Accreditation license.
- 3-5 years of equine experience preferred
- Must have a valid driver’s license. A veterinary truck and gas will be provided
- Must be able to pass a background check with no prior felonies or convictions.
